The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted in two stages. The NTSE Stage 1 is a state-level examination conducted by the union territories and states in India. Stage 2 is a national-level examination conducted by NCERT. NTSE syllabus mostly comprises Class 9 and Class 10 syllabus along with Mental Ability Test.
NCERT books are recommended for both stages of NTSE preparation.
The stage 1 exam is a state-level examination for which students should refer to state syllabus books. NCERT books are important as most of the topics are covered in them for mathematics and science subjects. NCERT books cover all important topics needed for the preparation. In the Social Science subject, the variation is observed in the paper state-wise as they contain few questions based on state-specific details.
NTSE stage 2 exam is basically NCERT based. There are higher-order questions in mathematics and science, but social science is usually from NCERT.
NTSE aspirants should have a well-defined study plan to cover the NCERT portion and state syllabus for grades 9 and 10. In addition, NTSE also requires the preparation of Mental Ability which has verbal and nonverbal sections.
Students preparing for the NTSE Exam should wisely select the books to which they refer for preparation. There should be a minimum number of books that are referred to. If students refer to too many books, then it creates undue confusion in preparation. NCERT solutions for class 10 should be part of the list for both stages of NTSE preparation. However, various other books for MAT and SAT for additional preparation are available online and offline and are favored by students.
